Water mains leak detection

A supply pipe can lose water for months before anything appears at the surface. We locate the escape without excavating the full run.

What usually brings us out

  • A water bill that jumped with nothing in the house changing
  • The meter still creeping round after every tap is off
  • A patch of drive or lawn that stays wet in dry weather
  • Pressure at the kitchen tap dropping away

How we go about it

  1. 1Isolate at the meter and the stop tap to prove the loss is on your side
  2. 2Listen along the pipe run with ground microphones
  3. 3Correlate between two sensors to fix the distance to the leak
  4. 4Confirm with tracer gas before anyone lifts a slab

Damp in a corridor, and three circuits to rule out

A supplier leak notice and a failed stopcock

A leak notice from the supplier, wet walls in the garage, and an internal stopcock that would not shut the water off. Tracer gas and acoustic listening agreed on the same corner.

  • Excellent Leak Detection and Repair

We had a major water leak of approximately 220 litres per hour and, with a holiday booked only a few days later, we urgently needed someone to find and repair it. […] Frank arrived at our house. He was extremely polite, professional and clearly very experienced. He quickly set up the equipment, carried out a tracer gas test and pinpointed the leak to an area just outside our garage underneath the driveway. […] The whole job, from arriving at our house to finding and repairing a 220 litre-per-hour leak, was completed in around three hours.

  • Fast, effective leak diagnosis and repair

Fundamentally, the engineer (Mark Pavitt) identified the source of the leak, repaired it and had our house back up and running within the same day. As part of achieving this, he kept the damage to a minimum (only having to cut out sections of the kitchen plasterboard ceiling). He cleaned up the debris, was polite, cheerful and informative of root cause and actions throughout the day. I think the key to success is having an engineer that has expertise in both leak detection and plumbing.
